Book Flame: Review: War Storm by Victoria Aveyard
Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal’s betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart—and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her—Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all… starting with the crown on Maven’s head.
But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal’s powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Guard, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if it means demolishing everything—and everyone—in his path.
War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs in the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?
In the epic conclusion to Victoria Aveyard’s stunning series, Mare must embrace her fate and summon all her power… for all will be tested, but not all will survive.
Review: I have no words. Which is never a good thing. I loved the Red Queen and I really liked Glass Sword but I almost wish I hadn’t because than I would have stopped the series there and never would have had to deal with the last two books in the series. After the frustration which was King’s Cage I was really hoping War Storm would redeem the series for me but the last and final book dragged, it was such a slow read for me, it took me over three weeks to finish it.
Red Queen is the first series in a long time where by the end of it I didn’t care for any of the characters that I loved in the first book, although I did find myself oddly rooting for Maven towards the last few chapters of War Storm, mainly because of how much I couldn’t stand Mare and Cal anymore.
The book was unnecessarily long and the way it ended I just found it all to be so anti-climatic, in the end I was just pissed over 650 some odd pages and that was it?!?! yeah I’m still irritated about it. I invested so much time in this series for THAT!?!
Now as far as point of views go I was bored out of my mind with Iris, no one cares about her she wasn’t relevant why not just have given all that extra space to Maven. On the bright side there was Evangeline, I loved her after War Storm sadly the only character I loved after this entire series, anyhow she was a nice surprise.
This wasn’t so much of a review as it was me trying to put my thoughts together and not give any spoilers. So far this has been the most disappointing read of 2018 for me mainly because I still had high hopes for War Storm and really wanted to end this series on a good note actually loving Mare and Cal again but instead it has left me with no closure, frustrated and annoyed to where I’m ready to donate these books because I know I will never want to read them again. I know harsh but that is how I feel.
