Checking Out Thrift Store Books #3: Reset and Silver

Checking Out Thrift Store Books #3: Reset and Silver

It’s time for another Thrift Book Reviews and I’m so excited to share what I’ve found! Thrift stores are a great place to find affordable reads and I’m always on the lookout for hidden gems. Plus, it’s a great way to redistribute books that you don’t plan to read again. This time around I found two books that were definitely worth the price.

First up is Reset by Sarina Dahlan. This dystopian novel follows Aris, a citizen of a society where everyone undergoes a memory wipe every four years. It’s meant to prevent future wars and conflicts, but Aris soon discovers the negative effects of this practice when her old memories start creeping back. This book is perfect for those who like to ponder difficult philosophical questions and I found myself wondering what my life would be like if I no longer had my family. It was an emotional read and I was rooting for love to prevail in the end.

Next is Silver by Chris Wooding. It follows a group of kids at Mortingham Boarding Academy who must fight for survival when large silver beetles with a mysterious virus start attacking students and turning them into zombie-like machines. It took me a while to get hooked on this book, but once I did I found myself loving it. I think Adam, the bully, was the most well-written character and I found myself rooting for his character growth as he slowly found a greater purpose outside of picking on his peers. This was an amazing read that played out in my head like an action-packed horror film.
